Boston on top after first two matches

Women’s Professional Soccer kicked off its third season this weekend, as the Boston Breakers visited the Atlanta Beat on Saturday and the Philadelphia Independence traveled to Sky Blue FC on Sunday. Four of the league’s six teams were in action over the past few days, with MagicJack and the Western New York Flash beginning their seasons on April 16 and 17, respectively.
Boston left Atlanta with three points courtesy of an impressive 4-1 victory. Four separate members of the Breakers scored at Kennesaw State University Soccer Stadium, as Jordan Angeli and Keeling Winters got the team off to a hot start, scoring goals in the 18th and 23rd minutes. Midway through the second half, Kelley O’Hara found the back of the net in the 72nd to make it 3-0. Atlanta was able to pull one back in the 78th minute courtesy of Carli Lloyd’s goal, but Boston’s Kasey Moore made it 4-1 around the 90-minute mark by successfully converting a penalty kick.
A late goal in the 90th minute salvaged a road draw for Philadelphia, as the Independence earned a 2-2 result. This was especially impressive because Sky Blue began the game with a 2-0 lead, finding early goals from Laura Kalmari and a gorgeous free kick to the top corner of the net by Casey Nogueira. Amy Rodriguez pulled one back for the visitors in the 56th minute and Christina DiMartino scored the late equalizer.
